Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome has several causes. Bound by bones and ligaments, the carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway — about as big as a small water host— situated on the palm side of the wrist. This channel protects the key nerve to your hand and nine tendons that make it possible to bend the fingers. Pressure on the nerve produces the lack of feeling, tenderness and, eventually, hand weakness that describe carpal tunnel syndrome. Providentially, many people who develop carpal tunnel syndrome, appropriate treatment generally can ease the hurting and lack of feeling and bring back normal use of the wrists and hands.
