Esophageal cancer
The esophagus is a tube that connects the throat with the stomach, transporting swallowed food and liquid to the stomach. Esophageal cancer is cancer that occurs in this tube. Esophageal cancer can occur in all portions of the esophagus, often in the lower portion. Symptoms of esophageal cancer can include difficulty swallowing and pain. Treatment of mild, localised cases of esophageal cancer with surgery may be curative. In larger esophageal cancers, chemotherapy or radiotherapy may be required.
