The HELIOS Hospital ranks among the largest and most medically advanced hospital groups in Europe. A strong network of hospitals, an intensive interdisciplinary knowledge exchange among our employees and the immediate implementation of innovations, are the core of the HELIOS philosophy. The HELIOS　Hospital Group consists of 62 hospitals, 43 acute care hospitals and 19 rehabilitation centers. Among the 43 hospitals are five maximum care hospitals in Berlin, Krefeld, Wuppertal, Erfurt and Schwerin. In addition HELIOS operates various senior residences and 23 medical provision centers all over Germany. With its steadily increasing network, HELIOS reaches annually approximately 2 million patients. Since its foundation in 1994 the HELIOS Group has put a strong emphasis on medical quality. HELIOS was the first hospital group to publish its medical outcome on an annual basis to create transparency on all levels.

Outcome really matters

From a patient’s point of view the outcome of a medical treatment is all that matters. If hospitalization is required generally the question "where should I go for treatment" is asked, but how can a layman answer this question?

The HELIOS quality management offers a solution. Continuously our experts analyze the quality of medical performance with the goal to exceed the average result of all German hospitals. If this benchmark is not competitive enough, an internal, higher benchmark is set.

This approach to medical quality is broadly accepted and by 2009 approximately 200 German hospitals, among which are five university hospital, apply the HELIOS standards to measure their quality. But the HELIOS approach is not limited to Germany, e.g. Switzerland, since 2008, apply the HELIOS QM as an mandatory measurement tool to evaluate medical performance.
