1985 - 1987 18 months`military service in Schwerin.
1987 (May - Aug.) 3 months`preliminary clinical experience in the Department of Internal Medicine at Grimmen District Hospital.
1987 (September) Enrolled at teh University of Rostock and began to study medicine.
1989 (June) Passed the preliminary examination in medicine.
1990 Clinical elective at Grimmen District Hospital.
1991 Clinical elective in the Paediatric Department and Polyclinic at the University Rostock.
1991 - 1992 Student assistant in the Paediatric Department at the University of Rostock.
1992 (June) Passed state examination (equivalent to first degree).
1992 - 1993 Final year of study completed with an elective in ophthalmology.
1993 Student assistant in the Opthalmology Department at the University of Rostock.
1993 (April) Period spent at the Birmingham Chidrens` Hospital to complete doctorate.
1993 (September) Passed interdisciplinary examination and was awarded the certificate for passing the final examination in medicine.
