Since its foundation as a "general hospital" in 1845, the Krefeld clinic has developed into a large, modern hospital, situated on the left Lower Rhine. As a first class therapeutic hospital, the Krefeld clinic primarily serves to treat patients with highly differentiated diagnoses and therapy requirements. Depending on requirement, treatment may be full-stationary, part-stationary, pre and post-stationary or ambulatory.

The HELIOS Hospital Krefeld contains 1023 hospital beds and each year more than 2,000 employees provide care in 20 clinics and institutes to more than 35,000 stationary patients and a multitude of ambulatory patients.

Alongside patient care, HELIOS Hospital Krefeld’s affiliated school for care professions and its governmentally-accredited academy for medical and pharmaceutical technical assistants provide 380 apprenticeship training positions, making it one of the largest training centres on the Lower Rhine. Furthermore, as an academic teaching hospital of the Heinrich Heine University in Duesseldorf, the HELIOS Hospital Krefeld ensures clinically practical education for medical students.
